Session Q&A

This would be managed via the Local Plan, which sets out the framework for future planning permissions. For example, it may require new developments to implement Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS), which are designed to manage surface water runoff by mimicking natural hydrological processes, rather than relying solely on traditional underground piped networks. There are also restrictions imposed on new developments by the regulatory bodies such as the Environment Agenda.

Full question: Regarding your third condition – Prioritisation of mental health services space on phase 4 land – this is the first I have heard about a mental health building. Can you share more detail?

There is no plan currently, but we know that Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust may be interested in having a facility on site, and we would like there to be provision that ensures they can build one if they decided to proceed with this.

Full question: What plans are there to address the risk that will come with more footfall outside Cambridge South in an area which already has a lot of bicycles at the base of the Busway bridge on Francis Crick Avenue? Who is responsible?

This would be something the landowners need to consider as part of their deal with National Rail/Greater Anglia. CBC Ltd has discussed this with the Bicycle User Walking Action Group (BUG-WAG), and will be keeping a close eye on the data received via the traffic monitoring sensors being installed and share it with partners to manage this risk as much as possible. This will also have been considered as part of the planning application when permission for the station was first granted.

Full question: When will the DNA path be fully open again once Cambridge South is open and the redirection at the Campus end is no longer required?

We are seeking an answer to this from the relevant organisations and will update when confirmed.

Cambridge Biomedical Campus representatives are working with the Local Transport Authorities and landowners to understand the options to develop easy onward journeys, including to the Addenbrooke’s bus station at the east of the Campus and facilitate smooth connecting journeys.

While there are no bus stops within the Cambridge South Station forecourt itself, there are bus stops close by, including the Busway at the Green and Gardens, and the bus stops on Francis Crick Avenue and Puddicombe Way. There are also proposals for further bus stop provisions on Francis Crick Avenue.

You can download a Campus map which includes bus stops and their routes on this page.

Cambridge Biomedical Campus Ltd is a non-profit partnership created in 2021 to represent the health, life science and education organisations located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Join us at our quarterly Open Forum, inviting the public to hear the latest news in life science, innovation and research on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC).

We will also be sharing details of some upcoming public events over the summer, give an overview on what’s been happening in recent months with regard to proposed future expansion of the Campus, as well as sharing some progress against the CBC Travel and Transport Plan. We will also have a guest presentation from the Royal Papworth Charity about their work.

Please register your place using the link below to ensure the event is not oversubscribed.

If you would like to submit any questions in advance, please email enquiries@cambridgebiocampus.co.uk.
