Guided Busway Safety Works latest
The County Council is making a series of safety improvements along the Guided Busway, including installation of fencing and safety barriers across the entire busway network.
Cambridgeshire County Council have advised that the next phase of the Guided Busway Safety Works will begin in March, focused on the Busway bridge onto campus, westwards to the main junction with the busway (next to Cambridge South Train Station, opposite The Green).
From Monday 2nd March the bridge, path and busway westwards towards the junction with the main busway will remain completely closed to cyclists and pedestrians along with one lane of the busway. This means buses leaving the Campus will be diverted via another route as per the image below. Buses entering the Campus from the main busway will still come over the bridge using the remaining open lane. This is expected to be in place until the end of April.
If you have questions or feedback related to the Busway works, email Guided.Busway@cambridgeshire.gov.uk.
These works will require changes to the bus stops on the Green – see below.
The path alongside the busway for cyclists and pedestrians travelling directly between Cambridge City Centre and Trumpington will be unaffected.
We encourage users of the Busway to find out more about the Safety Works and sign up to the project newsletter on the County Council website:

From 2nd March 2026
Buses that depart from the Cambridge Rail Station will use the Guided Busway track towards the Campus. They will enter over the busway bridge, through the rising bollards and serve the stop on The Green, between AstraZeneca’s Discovery Centre and Royal Papworth Hospital (Except on the 2nd and 3rd March, when the stops on the Green will be relocated to Francis Crick Avenue). From there, buses will proceed around the Campus as normal to Puddicombe Way. They will then turn left onto Robinson Way, then right onto Francis Crick Avenue (FCA).
Instead of then exiting the Campus over the busway bridge, buses will continue to a temporary bus stop located further up Francis Crick Avenue (FCA) (next to the Heart and Lung Research Institute). Services will then divert towards Trumpington via the roundabout at the end of Francis Crick Avenue, over Addenbrooke’s Road bridge and then on, serving the temporary stop at Hobson Avenue.

Changes in bus routes: Busway A to St Ives via Cambridge
From 2nd March 2026
Buses will operate on the Busway from Trumpington, entering the Campus over the railway via the bridge as normal. They will then enter The Green, between AstraZeneca’s Discovery Centre and Royal Papworth Hospital, and serve this stop. Buses will then continue on the normal route around the Campus and Addenbrooke’s to Puddicombe Way. From here, buses will turn right onto Robinson Way and then right again onto Long Road before proceeding to Cambridge Rail Station via Hills Road, rather than rejoining the Guided Busway.
Please note that there may be delays to services reaching the Rail Station during peak times due to congestion on Hills Road.
