Talk: Brain Boost: Healthy Habits for a Happier Life

Where: in person in Abcam on Campus, as well as online

When: 12.30pm-1.30pm

Join Professor Barbara Sahakian from the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cambridge and Clare Hall (co-author of Brain Boost: Healthy Habits for a Happier Life – published in February 2025).

She will discuss the evidence of how healthy lifestyle habits, including exercise, nutrition, social connections, and acts of kindness, profoundly impact brain health, cognition and emotional wellbeing. Come and discover the science-backed tips and practical strategies to sharpen cognition, enhance mood, reduce stress and foster resilience, ultimately helping you to lead a happier, healthier life. Following the talk, there will be time for questions and discussions with the audience.

This takes place in person at Abcam on the CBC. Please note that for this talk only, you will need to book at least 24 hours in advance – there will be no entry on the day due to Abcam’s security procedures. The event will also be live-streamed on this link.

Talk: The Balanced Brain – The Science of Mental Health

Where: in person in The Hub on Campus (here on What3Words)

When: 4.30pm-5.30pm

Dr Camilla Nord (MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit) – author of The Balanced Brain: The Science of Mental Health.

Why do surprises make us happy? Why does a seasonal cold make us feel blue? In this talk, Camilla Nord will explain how the biology of the brain and body constructs our sense of happiness, and how the small things we do to lift our mood during a day – a piece of chocolate, a coffee, laughing with a friend – sometimes work on the same pathways in our brain as the latest pharmacological treatments for mental health disorders.

Come and enjoy a piece of cake and a drink or coffee from the bar. Please note the refreshments are not supplied.
