Guest speaker Louise Allen, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Dr Louise Allen led the paediatric ophthalmology team at Addenbrooke’s in developing DigiVis DVA, a web-app created during the Covid crisis which enables adults and children to measure their vision at home and self-test in clinic.
DigiVis DVA gives families the ability to recognise changes in vision by testing at home, so they can reduce the number of trips to hospital and have the peace of mind that they will be able to detect changes in time to get sight-saving treatment.
Dr Allen will be sharing her experience as the inventor, researcher and founding director for several medical devices at different stages of the innovation journey. Using DigiVis DVA has an example, she will discuss what she has learnt from her implementation science research work and what to consider before setting off on the trip.
This session is primarily aimed at clinicians/clinician scientists who are at the start of their innovation journey but also those who are at the stage of considering commercialisation strategies.
